After writing and editing newspapers for a few years, it was time for me to move into the "private sector." In the journalism industry we called public relations the Dark Side. While I wouldn't call blogging and social media PR, I'm sure some of my former collegues would say it's a slippery slope.
Lately, The Boss has (jokingly, I think) been pestering me to change my writing style. "Fear and sex! That's all there is!"
I disagreed, saying that fear was the path to the dark side. Didn't he watch Star Wars? Wasn't he familiar with Yoda's great words? But when I couldn't quote him on cue, he scoffed at me. And then he said that the Jedi didn't embrace the dark side so they would never master the force. Or something like that.
As silly as this conversation was, it got me thinking. Maybe fear isn't such a bad thing. It makes me explore the water below a 30 foot cliff before I jump. It's why I look both ways before crossing the street. And honestly, it's why I back up my files on my work computer with StuffIt Deluxe, because I shudder to think of all the work I would lose if something were to happen.
But not everyone uses StuffIt Deluxe out of fear. Seriously! Check out this blogazine article from Aman Anderson, a great photographer and designer, about why you should own StuffIt.
Oh, and the art is courtesy of Aman as well. He drew it in Manga Studio Debut by request. Pretty sweet!
