At the end of most of my classes in college, the professor would have someone from a field related to the class come in and chat about his or her job as well as how to get said job after college. While advice varied from "Write a killer cover letter" to "Shower before your interview," there seemed to be one thing that was in every one of these chats: Get experience.
The Catch 22. How do you gain experience before you have a college degree to get the experience? The solution? The internship.
Smith Micro, Content Paradise and Poser are teaming up to sponsor the 2010 Computer Graphics Student Awards, hosted by cgCoach.com. There are 10 different categories, with awards for Student of the Year, School of the Year, and Excellence in all aspects of production such as modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, animation, fx, compositing, and concept art. Each category's winner will receive a copy (or educational licence in the case of the school) of Poser Pro 2010 and a gift certificate from Content Paradise.
Another cool thing is that each student to win will also receive a fully paid, eight week internship in London’s leading production studios Framestore and Double Negative (you must be eligible to work in the U.K., obviously). So not only can each winner create some stellar 3D illustrations and animation with Poser Pro 2010 and Content Paradise, they get to wrap their hands around that elusive experience.
