There's a Spanish proverb that says The belly rules the mind. Judging by how often I talk about pastries (on and off this blog), I would have to agree. Although you can go longer without it, food is as important as air.
We worked our tails off packing bags full of potatoes, carrots, cabbage, onions and broccoli. Toss one of those in a big boiling pot, and it would have made a killer stew.
The bags were distributed Monday morning, along with a bag of pantry staples like beans and rice. It went to more than 1000 families! Oh yeah, that feels good.
Thanks to Second Harvest for all the amazing things it does. You can donate here. Thanks to everyone for volunteering, and thanks to The Boss for giving us the afternoon off to make a difference in our community.
You can check out more of our photos from our volunteer afternoon. It was super-rewarding, and I'm pretty sure every one of us got a workout too. Bonus!
