Smith Micro's Sock Puppets App Helping Children Learn English

Posted by Emmy Rey on Apr 28, 2016 11:02:06 AM

At Valencia Park Elementary in Fullerton, California, 62% of students are learning English as a second language. Using the iPad, teachers are able to personalize learning no matter where students are on the language development scale.

With the Sock Puppets iPad app, available free on the Apple iTunes store, students record themselves reading and bring the sock puppets to life. This creates a fun way for them to see and hear their progress with pronunciation, speed, and accuracy.

"The class collaborates on engaging projects that encourage reading, writing and speaking. Literacy and fluency scores have vastly improved and attendance has skyrocketed."

-Alina Mills, Teacher
